ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION PARKA

IENKI IENKI proudly presents the Antarctic Expedition Parka, developed in collaboration with the National Antarctic Scientific Center of Ukraine for the team of the Ukrainian Antarctic station Akademik Vernadsky.

OUR PURPOSE

The Antarctic Expedition Parka was created as part of IENKI IENKI Advanced Research, the brand’s programme dedicated to exploring new technologies and developing highly specialised outerwear for demanding and extreme environments.

The parka was designed specifically for members of the Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition, allowing them to carry out scientific research and everyday work in Antarctica while remaining protected from the severe conditions of the continent.

THE ANTARCTIC CLIMATE

The project was developed in close collaboration with the National Antarctic Scientific Center of Ukraine, drawing on the experience of 26 previous expeditions.

Twelve members of the station live and work in the challenging conditions of Antarctica throughout the year. During the colder season, temperatures can fall to approximately -27°C, accompanied by frequent snowstorms, strong winds and rapid changes in weather.

Every element of the parka was therefore developed around protection, durability and reliable performance in extreme conditions.

INNOVATIVE MATERIALS

For the outer shell, IENKI IENKI selected a technical polyester microfibre fabric developed by Italian textile manufacturer Majocchi specifically for the project.

A waterproof, windproof and breathable membrane is positioned between the inner and outer layers of the parka, creating a protective barrier against severe weather while maintaining comfort during extended wear.

The Antarctic Expedition Parka also features multi-layer down insulation. The down is treated with an innovative hydrophobic solution that helps protect it from moisture.

This creates a dual system of water protection, both through the technical outer construction and within the insulation itself.

THE COLLABORATION

The Antarctic Expedition Parka was created as a functional uniform for the Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition and donated to the National Antarctic Scientific Center of Ukraine.

The first set of parkas was provided to the crew of the Ukrainian research icebreaker Noosfera, which transported members of the expedition to Antarctica under the Ukrainian flag.

A subsequent set was prepared for delivery to Chile before continuing to the Akademik Vernadsky station.

The project represents another stage in IENKI IENKI Advanced Research, demonstrating how the brand’s approach to outerwear can be adapted for scientific work and some of the world’s most demanding environments.
